இந்த புத்தகம் எஸ்.ராமகிருஷ்ணன் அவர்களின் “Travel vlog” என்றே கூறலாம். இதில் மொத்தம் 41 கட்டுரைகள் உள்ளது. காஷ்மீர் முதல் குமரி வரை பயணித்து பெற்ற அனுபவத்தை வாசிப்பாளர்களிடம் பகிர்ந்துகொள்கிறார்.

மனிதர்கள் இயற்கையாகவே பயணிகள் என்றும் பயணம்தான் மனித இனத்தை நாகரிக வளர்ச்சியை நோக்கி கொண்டு சென்றது என்றும் கூறுகிறார்.அவரது ஒவ்வொரு கட்டுரையை படித்த பிறகு நாமே அங்கு சென்று வந்தது போன்ற ஒரு உணர்ச்சி ஏற்படும். ஜெய்சால்மாரில் உள்ள பாலைவனத்தின் விவரிப்பின் போது, ஒரு வறண்ட, வண்ணமில்லாத பாலையை இப்படி  கூட ரசிக்க முடியுமா!! என்று தோன்ற வைக்கிறார். இவை இடம்பெறும் கட்டுரையின் பெயர்: “மணலின் சமுத்திரம்”.

1964 தனுஷ்கோடியில் ஏற்பட்ட புயலில் தாக்கத்தை,  அவர் “உறங்கும் கடல்” கட்டுரையின் மூலம் வெளிப்படுத்தும் போதும்  நாகபட்டினம் கடற்கரை, திருநெல்வேலி மாவட்டம் கொற்கை கடற்கரையில் நடந்த சுனாமியின் கோரத் தாண்டவம் பற்றியும் அவர் பகிரும் போது மனது கனக்கிறது.

கங்கைகொண்ட சோழபுரத்தின் கோயிலை நேரில் கண்டது போல தோன்ற வைக்கும் அவரது எழுத்துக்களும், விவரனையும் இடம்பெறும் கட்டுரை: கல்லில் மலர்ந்த பூக்கள்.

இதுபோன்ற அவரது பயணம் சாரநாத், பூனா, பனாரஸ்  என்று நீண்டுகொண்டே போகிறது. ஒவ்வொரு இடத்தையும் எவ்வாறு ரசிக்க வேண்டும் என்று அவரது அனுபவம் கற்றுக் கொடுக்கிறது.

பணம் இருந்தால் யார் வேண்டுமானாலும் இந்த இடங்களுக்கு செல்லலாம். ஆனால் ரசிக்கும் மனம் இருந்தால் மட்டும்தான் பயணம் ஒரு பெரிய அனுபவம் ஆகின்றது.

 

ஒரு இடம் வெறும் தண்ணீராலோ, செங்கல் மணலிலாலோஆனவை அல்ல. அவை பல ஆயிரம் வருஷம் வரலாற்றை சுமந்துக் கொண்டு இருக்கிறது. இன்றைக்கு நாம் செல்லும் ஒரு பழமை வாய்ந்த கோவிலில் நாம் இன்று கடவுளை தரிசிக்கும் அதே இடத்தில் பல ஆயிரம் வருடம் முன்பு ஒரு அரசன் நின்று தரிசித்து  இருப்பான் என்று உங்களால் நினைத்துப் பார்க்க முடிந்தால் அது அனுபவம் ஆகிறது.

 

Big Bang - இன் விளைவாக பிரபஞ்சமே பயணித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் போது, நாம் அதில் ஒரு புள்ளியின் புள்ளி. நாமும் பயணிப்போம் உலகை உணர, வரலாற்றை உணர ,முன்னோர்களை உணர ,நம்மை உணர.

Book Commentary || Yaanai Doctor - Jeyamohan

Genre:  Fiction, Short Story, Nature 

The story takes place in the forest near Top Slip, Pollachi. It is about the daily happenings of the Yaanai doctor, Mr. Krishnamurthy, also known as Dr. K by locals. It takes only 40 minutes to read this book, but Jeyamohan has handled it beautifully, making readers realize the sensitiveness of elephants.

As a reader, we surely think about Dr. K whenever we visit Top Slip.

The way Jeyamohan has briefed about how Dr. K treated the Asiatic wild dog was nothing less than a Hollywood scene. In many places, Jeyamohan has given slipper shots to those who harm the animals.

The end part was emotionally peak. It was too intense, and if you can visualize it like a movie scene while reading, I am sure you will end up having goosebumps.

It is highly recommended to read!!!

Book Commentary|| Malgudi Days - R.K.Narayan

 

Malgudi Days

"Malgudi Days" by R.K. Narayan is a collection of 32 short stories that takes us on a journey to Malgudi, an imaginary village located in South India. Even though it's imaginary, it makes us feel like a real village. The characters in the stories are ordinary people, and what sets Malgudi apart is that the author represents ordinary characters as extraordinary in their manners. As the author said, all Malgudi characters can be found anywhere in the world.

What sets Malgudi Days apart is the way Narayan wrote the stories. They are simple yet full of emotions that people of all ages can connect to. The prose is straightforward yet rich in detail about the vivid characters and the setting.

All the stories are excellent, but my favourites are The Missing Mail, The Doctor's Word, The Blind Dog, Father's Help, Such Perfection, Forty-Five a Month, Mother and Son, The Axe, and Selvi.

Throughout the book, the author explores various emotions, like love, friendship, and honesty. According to me, the special thing about Malgudi Days is how the author conveys the most profound thoughts through a simple and understandable story. Malgudi Days brilliance lies in its open-ended stories, inviting readers to ponder, imagine, and create their own conclusions, making the reading experience both engaging and thought-provoking.

If you appreciate simple, funny, and heartwarming tales about everyday happiness and struggle, then Malgudi Days is a must-read for you.

தேர்ந்தெடுத்த சிறுகதைகள்

நாம் மறந்த மற்றும் இக்கால சூழ்நிலைகளில் யோசிக்க தவறிய பல சிறிய விஷயங்களை தன் கதையின் மூலம் பிரபஞ்சன் எடுத்து விளக்கி இருக்கிறார்.

இவரது அனைத்து கதைகளும் மானுடம் பற்றியும் மனிதநேயத்தை பற்றியும் மிக அழகாக பேசும்.மிக சிறிய கதைகள் ஆனால் , அவை ஏற்படுத்தும் தாக்கம் மிகவும் ஆழமானது .

அவர் அவரது கதைகளில் உபயோகப்படுத்தும் கதாபாத்திரத்திரங்கள், நாம் நம் அன்றாட வாழ்வில் காண்பவையே. ஆனால், வாழ்வியல் காரணங்களாலும் பொருள் ஈட்டும் எண்ணங்களாலும் மேலும் பல சக்கரங்களை நாமே நமக்கு கட்டிக் கொண்ட காரணங்களாலும் நம்மால் அவர்களை காண முடியவில்லை.

ஒரு மாலை தென்றல் நம்மை சீண்டுவது போல, மண்ணில் விழுந்த மழைத்துளியால் கிளம்பும் மண்வாசனை போல, இரவு நேரத்தில் கடல் அலை ஓசை போல, இவரது கதைகள் அனைத்தும் மிகவும் ஆறுதல் தருவதாக அமைந்திருக்கிறது.

"பிரம்மம்" என்கிற இவரது கதை மூலம் நிச்சயம் ஒரு மரமாவது நாம் வளர்க்க வேண்டும் என்ற ஆசையை உங்கள் மனதில் தோன்ற வைப்பார். "யாசுமின் அக்கா" என்கிற கதை மூலம் பர்தா அணிந்த பாய் அக்காவை பார்த்தாலே உங்கள் மனதில் தானாக மரியாதை வரும் வகையில் அமைத்திருப்பார். சமுதாயத்தில் இருந்த மற்றும் இருக்கும் நிற வேறுபாட்டை மற்றும் வெறியை இவரின்"பாதுகை"யை விட யாராலும் மிக எளிமையாக, ஆழமாக சொல்லிவிட முடியாது.

இவரது கதைகளில் சில கதைகள் பல்வேறு கல்லூரிகளில் பாடமாக வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. பிரபஞ்சனின் கதைகளை நோக்கி நமது வாசிப்பை தொடர்வதன் மூலம்  நாம் மனிதநேயத்தில் பல படிகள் முன்னேறலாம்.

Book Commentary|| It Starts With Us- Colleen Hoover

It Starts With Us

“I’m exactly where I belong, being loved by Atlas Corrigan.”

It Starts With Us is a romance novel written by Colleen Hoover, a sequel to her best-selling novel It Ends With Us. It is written for the audience who wanted to see Lily and Atlas endgame.

The story follows Lily Bloom, a single mother who is trying to move on from her ex-husband, Ryle. Time and coincidence play a part in Atlas and Lily's lives when they meet after two years. When Atlas asks her out, she says yes, but she ponders the fact that even though she and Ryle are divorced, he is still a big part of her life because of their daughter, Emerson. She also fears his reaction when he finds out about her relationship with Atlas. The book also shows Atlas's abusive childhood with his mother and stepfather. He also meets his stepbrother and we follow the story of how he gets his custody from his mother and bonds with him.

It beautifully portrays how they try to rekindle their childhood love. Their love is naive, sometimes cheesy (like when they quote Finding Nemo), and sometimes full of inside jokes.

My favorite character throughout both books is Alyssa, but Marshall surpasses her when he comforts Lily during her breakdown. Theo’s one-liners are what takes the cake in this one and “I Wish For You To Be My Fish” will go down in history as THE quote from this novel.

When the line "Men Written by Women" comes up, everyone will remember Atlas Corrigan. It is like Colleen Hoover made a perfect man without any flaws, someone who is perfectly calm and collected in every situation. This makes us fall irrevocably in love with him, even knowing that there is no one like him in reality.

Atlas's way with words has definitely created a swarm of butterflies in the pit of my stomach. He made me fall in love with the lines he uses to express his love.

"I can draw a seedling with two tiny branches. Yours and mine. We'll be on our own brand-new, tiny family tree—one that starts with us."

Going through the story, most of us will fall in love with Atlas and be angry at Ryle because he becomes more obnoxious day by day. Ryle is a person with a complex past, and he expects Lily to stand with him to overcome his problems and issues. However, as Lily says, "He's a broken man, but he isn't broken because of me. He was broken before he met me. Sometimes people think if they love a broken person enough, they can be what finally repairs them, but the problem with that is the other person just ends up broken, too."

There are no chapters that depict Ryle's point of view. I started to dislike him by reading Lily and Atlas's POVs. After that, I realized that "There are no bad people, there are just good people who sometimes do bad things." Maybe if we got to know the story through Ryle's point of view, we wouldn't have such disdain for him, because the likes and dislikes depend on the point of view from which we are viewing the story.

Overall, It Starts With Us is a heartwarming story about two people finding love and redemption. Lily and Atlas' relationship is beautifully portrayed, and their love for each other is undeniable. This book is a must-read for fans of romance, but it is also a great read for anyone who enjoys a well-written and moving story.

Book Commentary || The Old Man And The Sea - Ernest Hemingway

About the book:

The plot of this book is very simple and straightforward. It tells the tale of a old fisherman, a young boy, and a large fish called Marlin.

Story of the book:

An old fisherman, whose name is Santiago, has gone 84 days without catching a fish. So, he has been termed "Salao" by the local people, which means the worst form of unluckiness.

A boy who once accompanied the old man is now forced to leave him by his parents because he is not catching any fish.

Despite his old age, to prove his skill, he sets out on the 85th day at sea. He goes far away, and his bait is taken by a huge fish, "Marlin."

The fish will not give up easily, and the old man is also very determined to not let it too easily, thus the fight started between them, which was equally brave and courageous.

Climax:

I am not going to reveal the full story, but the climax part was not a victorious one. It was packed with emotions. Until then, it was a normal story. But in the end, it was highly sensitive. Ernest Hemingway made every reader feel for the old man.

My Musings/Thoughts on this book:

I picked up this book just because of its smaller number of pages. But it turned out to be noteworthy and highly recommended to read, except for a few technical aspects related to fishing that are quite challenging to understand. Otherwise, this book deserves a place on your shelf.
